Established in 1968, the Suicide Prevention & Crisis Service of Tompkins County local crisis line is still operational today. For over 50 years, we have been a trusted support for those in our local community to reach out for support. When individuals come into our community and then leave for a variety of reasons (students graduate and move onto new careers, relocations, etc.), they take the number with them after experiencing the empathy and compassion from our Crisis Counselors. We now receive hundreds of calls every month on this line from all across the country – and sometimes internationally.
Callers to the local crisis line receive the same support from our trained Crisis Counselors who listen, understand how experiences are affecting callers, provide support, and explore/connect them to resources when appropriate.
